CoinStats Silver Type Coin Summary

Most significant ratings change among MS 63 types is Three Cent Silver Type 1 and Barber Quarter, both up 4 CoinStats points to 66 and 74, respectively. Two types retain their SELL flags in MS 63 ö Walking Liberty Half (48 points) and Morgan Silver Dollar (44). The only two changes in MS 64 are Three Cent Silver Type 2 (-4 to 60) and (+4 to 62) for Capped Bust Quarter (Large). The single recommendation is SELL (42 points) for Morgan Silver Dollar. Just a couple of changes in MS 65 ö Seated Dime Star type +2 to 66, and Seated Dollar with Motto -4 to 64; the single flag (SELL) is raised for Morgan Silver Dollar (44 points). Biggest changes for MS 66 are +4 for Standing Liberty Quarter Type 2 (to 78) and Capped Bust Half (to 62); and the only recommendation continues to be a BUY (80 points) for the Peace Silver Dollar. MS 67 features the most BUY flags ö for both types of Seated Half Dime (80 each), Seated Dime with Stars (90), Standing Liberty Quarter Type 2 (94), Seated Half with Motto (80), Walking Liberty Half (80), and Peace Silver Dollar (90). There were virtually no point changes in PR 63 and PR 64, and the only recommendations in these grades were BUY for PR 64 Seated Half Dime with Stars (80) and Seated Dime with Stars (86). The only flag raised in PR 65 is a SELL for Morgan Silver Dollar (46); and two categories shed their SELL ratings ö Barber Half (+4 to 50) and Seated Dollar No Motto (also +4 to 50). The largest point swing among all the silver types is turned in by PR 66 Seated Quarter with Motto (+6 to 64). Rounding out the silver CoinStats recommendations are three BUYS ö PR 66 Three Cent Silver Type 2 (84 points), PR 66 Seated Half No Motto (82), and PR 67 Seated Half with Motto (84). There is an interesting phenomenon of dropping Populations in particular grades, due undoubtedly to breakouts. For example, the combined PCGS and NGC populations of Three Cent Silver Type 1 has dropped by 75 coins in MS 63, Twenty Cent Piece in MS 64 shows a population loss of 22 pieces. On the other hand, the population of Three Cent Silver Type 1 in MS 67 exploded by over 100% (from 30 to 64) in this three month period.

** UNIQUE SPECIAL SITUATION: Concern over potential problems that could occur as a result of the Year 2000 Millenium Bug (Y2K) has caused substantial buying in select items. This is causing temporary shortages in supply and could cause hgher prices over the next 12 months.
